Whether you seek lodgings that provide luxury and are close to exciting nightlife, or  you desire smaller, more romantic accommodations, the islands of Antigua and Barbuda have you covered.  There are over 100 hotels and dozens of rental villas on  the islands, making it easy to fit every traveler's needs.

By following the following link, you will find an alphabetical listing of Antigua's hotels and resorts.  From there, you can find out more information about each property by clicking on the name of the hotel.  If you are unsure about where you would like to stay, the amenities or services offered by a particular hotel or resort can be a major selling point.  For this reason, you can choose to sort hotels grouped by a number of options, including by Star Ratings, by Best Hotels for Dining Options, Best Hotels for Entertainment and Nightlife, Best Hotels for Family Vacations, and more.  Each of these sections can assist you in finding the perfect accommodations for your island getaway.

Location

Location plays an important role when considering accommodations on the island. If you don't mind crowds, the northwest part of Antigua would be the ideal place to stay. Breath-taking beaches and extravagant hotels and resorts can be found on this part of the island.

St. John's is the largest city on the island, and business travelers will often choose a hotel in the St. John's area because it is closest to the country's business sector, and the hotels in the area cater to this type of traveler.  Heritage Hotel, for example, has copy and fax services, access to the hotel's WiFi, and conference rooms for important meetings.  Meanwhile, the furnishing are tropical, giving even business travelers the opportunity get into vacation mode and enjoy the locale.

...variety of lodging options...

Just north of St. John's, on the northwest tip of Antigua is Dickenson Bay, where the watersports enthusiasts will find the best lodgings options for them. Many of the hotels in this area are situated right along the shore, and include watersports equipment in their room price.  Even hotels that do not offer this perk in the price will often arrange for you participate in water based activities.  Dickenson Bay Cottages, which is a self-catering property, will set guests up with local dive companies, catamaran services, and more.  There is also a good number of fine restaurants and shopping centers located in this area of the island.

Vacationers who are interested in history will find many historic sites and landmarks within easy reach when they stay in English Harbour, while Jolly Harbour is a great locale for those who want to be near a good number of restaurants and shopping centers.  There are a variety of lodging options in this area, from hotels to villas.  The Admiral's Inn and the Inn at English Harbour are both located in English Harbour and feature very elegantly appointed rooms and views of the harbor.

Take caution when you book your stay through an on-line travel service. Often times, in order to get the traveler's attention, hotels will list themselves as being located in a large city, when in fact they are several miles away from said location.  Confirm the location of the hotels you are considering by visiting their official web site, or calling the hotel itself.

Types of Accommodations

Hotels

When it comes to the available hotels on Antigua and Barbuda, the options really run the gamut.  Vacationers may choose from a small and intimate retreat to a facility made up entirely of suites for those who need more space, and even some luxury properties, which are often all-inclusive hotels.  While guests are responsible for seeking out and paying for their own meals and activities at most hotels, when you choose an all-inclusive resort, everything is combined into one bill.  Some of the more luxurious resorts will even include the cost of your air fare and transportation in the final bill, which certainly simplifies the process.  Though it is typical for prices to include the service charges and government tax, be sure to inquire about any possible fees when making your reservations.

Condo & Villa Rentals

If you want to escape the crowds, or are traveling with a large family or group of people, then renting small guest house or villa in Antigua might be more appealing to your vacationing needs.  The south coast of Antigua is a quiet locale, with several rental properties available, including Alagana House.  Alagana House, much like many of the islands' other villas and condo rentals, offers guests a homier atmosphere, the freedom to come and go as they please, the space to house their whole family comfortably, and the ability to shop for and cook their own food.  Each villa and condo differs in its offerings – some have daily maid services, while others leave you completely to your own devices until the end of your stay.  The most popular option for villas in Antigua is a complex of villas, where guests will be on the same property as many other travelers, but given their own space.

Camping & Eco-Tourism

Camping is a great way to enjoy the natural habitat of a foreign country.  Unfortunately, there are no camp grounds or eco-lodges on either Antigua or Barbuda.  That doesn't mean guests will not find the opportunity to explore Mother Nature in all her glory – in fact, there are many natural attractions on the islands.  Learn more about Eco-Tourism in Antigua and Barbuda when you click here

Personal Considerations

For most vacationers, choosing their desired location and type of accommodation is about more than their personal preference.  Instead, when planning a trip to Antigua, many have to take a number of other factors into consideration.

Party Size

The place you choose to stay may very well depend upon the size of the group you are traveling with.  Singletons may have an easy time of selecting what sounds appealing to them, however, if you are traveling with a group of friends or your family you have more planning to do.  Couples might narrow down their choices between a number of romantic resorts such as Sandals Antigua, which was voted the “World's Leading Honeymoon Resort,” several times over.  A group of girlfriends or frat brothers might go for a hotel known for being adults-only such as Coconut's Beach Club, while those traveling with their young children will look for lodgings that offer a lot of perks for the younger set, like Halcyon Cove, which has a number of children's programs including “Rexplorers” and “If a Pirate I Must Be.”  If you are traveling with a large group, a villa or condo rental may be ideal, or a hotel that offers large suites, so you can make sure you have room for everyone.

Interests

Ideally, you will find lodgings close to the activities you and your group would like to participate in, and the attractions you would like to see.  If you plan to spend your days relaxing on the beach, most of the hotels along the coast will work out just fine.  Jolly Harbour is great for visitors interesting in having a wide variety of restaurants and shopping locales to choose from, English Harbour is home to Antigua's national park, and St. John's has a number of museums and two military forts to explore.  Vacationers interested in watersports will find that Dickenson's Bay is a great home base.

Length of Stay

The length of time you plan to stay in Antigua should be a factor in deciding where you will stay, as well.  A weekend, or even a week-long getaway will often best be spent at a hotel or all-inclusive resort, where you can get decent deals for short stays. The longer you plan to be in the country, however, the better off you are seeking out a rental property, which have better rates for extended stays.

Quality

Whether you're on the hunt for a high quality room, or just something in your price range, there are a few things to consider.  Just because a hotel has a high rating, doesn't mean it will be high priced. Many times, the highest priced hotels are located right on the beach, so you may be able to find accommodations with high quality ratings, but lower prices, if you search further inland.  Likewise, some hotels that are not as high-end may charge you an arm and a leg just to stay with them because of their prime location.  At Antigua Guide, our hotel rating system has been developed independent of pricing, so you can often find accommodations that suit you in each price range.  Still, you tend to get what you pay for when it comes to lodgings in Antigua.

One and Two Stars

Travelers who are simply looking for a place to sleep and store their luggage can locate basic rooms for under $75(USD) per night.  The least expensive and lowest rated hotels in Antigua still sit at two star ratings, so even though you may find a low price on a room, that does not mean you will be staying at a questionable property.  The two star hotels in Antigua include Antigua Beachcomber Hotel, Blue Heron by Rex Resorts, and City View Hotel in St. Johns, and the Catamaran Hotel in Falmouth Harbour.  These hotels are all modern, and well-appointed.

Three Stars

In the 2.5 to 3 star range there are many more options to choose from that are spread out over a wider area of the islands.  These accommodations, which include Tranquility Bay in Jolly Harbour and Antigua Village Condominium in St. Johns, are still very reasonably priced, starting out often at around $115(USD) per night.

Four Stars

There are about an equal amount of 3.5 to 4 star hotels on the islands, and these higher-end lodgings are also found to be dispersed over a large area, so guests aren't confined to choosing a hotel in a specific area.  The 3.5 to 4 star hotels will often feature luxuriously decorated rooms and a staff prepared to pamper its guests.  Expect to pay anywhere from $400 to $750(USD) for a hotel with these ratings, though locales such as Coral Sands Cottages can be found for $250 to $350(USD) per night, while St. James Club can be more expensive, with couples packages around $900(USD).

Five Stars

Finally, the hotels with a 4.5 to 5 star rating.  These are the top-of-the-line, often overtly-expensive accommodations.  Luxury does not begin to describe these choices, which include Carlisle Bay, Curtain Bluff, Jumby Bay, Hermitage Bay, and Sandals Antigua Caribbean Village & Spa.  It is not uncommon for guests to pay upwards of $1000 for a stay at such hotels.

Hotel Search

Another great feature we have here at Antigua Guide is our advanced hotel search tool.  This allows you to search accommodations that fit all of your criteria.  By selecting where you want to stay, how much you want to spend, which features you desire, and when you want to travel, you will be shown a list of every hotel that matches up.  Once you have chosen your lodgings, you may also book your stay through this system.

There is nothing worse than arriving on your vacation to discover that the hotel you chose was not all that you would hoped it would be.  By comparing the cost and the quality of each option, reviewing the star ratings, and determining if the location of the hotel is where you want it to be, you run a better chance of getting exactly what you'd dreamed of.  Making an educated decision on your accommodations can make or break your stay, and our extensive articles on each type of hotel and all that they offer will certainly help you to do so.
