Camping and Eco-Tourism in Antigua

Camping on Antigua offers a number of ways for vacationers to experience nature

Become One With Nature

There is no camping on the island of Antigua. Though this may come as a disappointment to many nature lovers, there are still a number of outdoor activities and ecologically oriented activities to do on the island.

For those interested in hunting, the island allows the hunting of wild game including boar, deer, and various game fowl after gun permits and hunting licenses are obtained. If hunting is not for you, the island has several stables found in Dickenson Bay or Spring Hill Riding Club where you can make arrangements for horseback riding starting at $45(USD) for a two hour ride.

For more outdoor adventures, there are off-road Jeep safaris, bike-riding, kayaking, snorkeling. Antigua also has numerous hiking trails including the Wallings Forest Trails where you can plan on spending 2-3 hours on the paths which lace the rainforest hills and valleys.

Antigua is rich in bird life and tropical vegetation. A key location for bird watchers is the of Barbuda's Frigate Bird Sanctuary in the northern swamps of Codrington Lagoon. Over 400 species of birds migrate to the lagoon yearly. The sanctuary is accessible only by boat, so consult your guide.

While staying in Barbuda, you may notice that the accommodations are more quaint and rustic than on the island of Antigua. Like Antigua, Barbuda does have lodgings ranging from small guesthouses luxury hotels.
