The islands of Antigua and Barbuda offer two completely different vacation experiences for visitors. Fortunately, this means that travelers will be able to choose the style that's perfect for them, be it modern and convenient or low-key and secluded.

Most people who visit Antigua find it to be a perfect blend of Caribbean beauty and modern comfort. It's also a great place for travelers with a variety of interests – more than 300 world-class beaches surround the island, protecting an interior dotted with nature preserves, historical sites, and unique island culture. Vacationers looking to get a real feel for the island will find no shortage of attractions to keep them busy.

Beaches

On Antigua, beaches run the gamut from rugged coastline to powder-fine sand and are known for their 365 beaches; one for each day of the year.  The island of Barbuda is much smaller than Antigua, and life on Barbuda is perceptibly slower, making it an ideal destination for travelers in search of peace and quiet. Breathtaking beaches comprise most of the natural attractions and offer plenty of variety to delight visitors.  Regardless of which island you seek a beach day on, you will find that all of the beaches are open to the public.

Nature

The remarkable natural beauty of the island is a draw for many travelers, and it's not hard to see why. The Botanical Gardens, located in Antigua's St. John, offer an array of tropical plants, flowers, and native wildlife.  A hurricane destroyed the gardens in the late 1990s, but a speedy restoration has brought the gardens back and better than ever. Those interested in learning more about the animals found in the region should make a point of visiting the Hawksbill Turtle Preserve. Consider a brisk hike up Mount Obama (once Boggy Peak): this highest point on Antigua offers stunning views. More information about Antigua's nature can be found here

Landmarks

History buffs will also find areas for exploration, including the British Fort James located on Antigua and Barbuda's Martello Tower, a 19th century defensive point. Also on Barbuda is Highland House, a large area that is home to the interesting ruins of an estate house built in the mid 1700s. To read more about Antigua's landmarks, click here.

Casinos

Travelers looking to test their luck should head down to one of Antigua's two major casinos. At King’s Casino is St. John has been a favorite local destination for decades, and is the largest casino on the island. Offering slot machines, gaming tables, video machines, sporting bets and more, this is a great place for those seeking a great gambling experience. Alternatively, consider the Grand Princess Casino in Jolly Harbour. This facility offers a more lavish atmosphere, and features all casino-style equipment gamblers expect, as well as an on-site restaurant, cocktail lounge, nightclub, spa and more. A visit to one of these casinos is a great way to spend an evening.

From plants and animals to military fortifications, there are a number of great attractions waiting for you on the islands of Antigua and Barbuda. Decide which options fit your interests and vacation style and then get busy soaking up the beauty and culture of two of the most enjoyable destinations in the Caribbean.
